LIFE CHANGES

Well a lot has happened in the last month. I still have to get used to trying to keep this updated. We have officially added the academic portion of homeschooling and are walking through the adjustments that come with Mom being teacher. At first both John and I had tearful moments as we began to stretch and adapt to a new routine. We are getting used to each other and I'm figuring out when he really needs help and when he just is being difficult. This decision to homeschool this year has truly brought me to God on a regular - sometimes minute by minute basis to seek guidance and inner strength to avoid the power struggles and wisdom on creative ways to get a concept across. Some subjects are a breeze, and others are like pulling teeth somedays. I have explained several times that whether he is being taught by his mom or another teacher that there are times when something may be challenging but the important part is that we persevere and keep a good attitude. This life of homeschooling has really opened my eyes to character traits in myself that are in need of refinement. It has also been a joy to watch over this summer and the beginning of the official 'school' year, the relationship developing between my two boys. I know that because they are together constantly they are 'forced' in a way to deal with figuring out how to get along a lot more than if John was away all day at school. The really neat thing is when I overhear John passing on a piece of something he has learned whether academic or a life lesson to his 3 year old brother.

We also experienced a major change last week when we bid farewell to Linda Mata-Pantoja, our roommate of the last 16 months. I know her kids and husband are glad to haver her home, now that she is out of the Army, but we will always feel a bit like someone is missing when we sit down at the table. She had become a sister to Brian and I, a wonderful listening ear when we needed to vent. The boys thought of her as an aunt and loved to hang out with her or mess with her cat. I don't miss the numerous episodes of the cat peeing on Titus' bed or my side of the bed!! But, I do miss the cat's sweet owner and the awesome Hispanic food we were spoiled with. Man, oh man could that woman cook!!

Another new change is the addition of 2 new neighbors that have kids around Titus' age. We have had them over for dinner and hope to continue to get to know them once we all get over the flu bug that dropped in early this year.
